Desperate to lose weight…Most people who have struggled with emotional and binge eating, and who struggle with body dissatisfaction, can identify with feelings of desperation. How many of us have asked,”What will it take for me to finally be motivated to lose weight?”
Desperate to lose weight…Many people I speak with say they thought learning they were pre-diabetic would do the trick. But even that didn’t stop the emotional eating. The most dramatic example I can share came from [private_membership circle] a conversation I had with a nurse coordinator of a Weight Loss Surgery Program in Cincinnati. This nurse told me she was seeing a disturbing trend…some people (enough to take note) were evaluated, turned away because they were not fat enough to qualify for surgery, and then decided to go home and gain more weight so they could qualify. I have since heard similar stories from others who work in the weight loss surgery field. Even weight loss surgery will not stop compulsive behavior, like emotional eating (read more about surgery and compulsivity here).
Desperate to lose weight…But what if the emphasis changed from desperation to lose weight…to a decision to practice self-care…to take good care of the one body you have, right now? What if today you explored what you might do to make healthier choices…today; emotionally, physically, nutritionally, and spiritually? What choices would you make that would support living your life more healthfully today?
