I am not an anomaly or at all out of the ordinary. I am NOT thin (by the standards of any industrialized culture I know of), and I AM healthy and I believe attractive. So why do so many uninformed people in the world object so vehemently when people like me…[private_membership circle]and an increasing number of scientists and researchers suggest that being fit and “overweight” is not only possible, but when it comes to some diseases and longetivity, that it can actually be protective? I’ll talk more about the science and biases in future blog posts, but this morning I just wanted to share a quote that someone posted today on one of my professional list servs. It was offered in response to a discussion about all of the nasty anonymous comments people spew on the internet when even the the idea of being fit and fat is suggested. Here’s the quote…
“Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized. In the first it is ridiculed, in the second it is opposed, in the third it is regarded as self-evident.” Arthur Schopenhauer
I’m working hard to bring stage three into the light. Where would you say you are today…riduculing the idea that you can be healthy at your current size, opposing the idea, or embracing it as self-evident and treating your body accordingly?
