Wow! I was just approached by a major airline and asked if I would like to participate in its upcoming in-flight video series, to be called “Embrace Your Shape”. Is this a sign that change is truly coming…or just evidence that the airlines are hurting so badly that they are looking for any new advertisers they can find?
I hope it’s a sign of change! Here’s what they had to say.
We would like to feature A Weigh Out in our in-flight video series now airing on Delta Air Lines…we are producing a special spotlight entitled, “Embrace Your Shape.” Rather than highlight the latest fad diets and “get thin quick” gimmicks, we will showcase brands and honor organizations, such as yours, who have contributed to helping women feel comfortable in their own skin and maintain a healthy body image.
Despite evolving views on physical appearance, many women still place dieting at the top of their New Year’s Resolutions lists. This year, we want to show them how to get off the scale and celebrate their curves! From the latest in plus-size fashions and shapewear, to the organizations committed to encouraging self esteem, we look forward to sharing ways our captive audience can love themselves inside and out!
OK, it is an ad campagn and participation costs a fortune (too rich for my blood), but it’s still exciting to see it’s initiation, no matter what the motive! I’m also choosing to ignore the irony here…airline seats are currently narrower than ever and many fat people are scared to death that they could be unceremoniously thrown off a flight just for being “curvy”.
But, ever the glass half-full sort of gal, I’m going to look for progress wherever I can find it. And I think this is progress! Thanks, Delta!
