Empowering Women Through Movement

Our Guest: Rochelle Rice, MA
Host: Ellen Shuman, Emotional and Binge Eating Recovery Coach; A Weigh Out

This Seminar will be Posted Inside the Members’ Circle on April 15, 2012

Rochelle Rice, MA

Rochelle Rice dedicates herself to empowering women of size, by connecting the body, the mind, and the heart through focus, movement, and breath. She is the author of Real Fitness for Real Women. Following her history with bulimia, Rice’s interest in Plus-Size Exercise came through her concerns about society’s inordinate stress put on thinness rather than fitness. Providing a program to empower women to participate in physical exercise, while feeling secure emotionally, became Rice’s passion. Designing a fitness technique where women of size could achieve a level fitness was the basis of her graduate work.

Her book is Real Fitness for Real Women; A Unique Workout Program for the Plus-Size Woman. Her DVD is all about Empowering Women Through Movement. For more information, join us for a lively conversation and learn more about Rochelle at www.RochelleRice.com

Host: Ellen Shuman, Emotional and Binge Eating Recovery Coach; A Weigh Out

This Seminar was Posted Inside the Members’ Circle on June 15, 2011

Dr.Michelle Lelwica, ThD

Religion of Thinness

Dr. Michelle Lelwica writes about society’s worship of thinness and says it’s no wonder so many women devote an enormous amount of time, money, and energy pursuing a slender body. She believes this pursuit has come to function like a religion, with its own set of beliefs, myths, rituals, images, and moral codes that encourage followers to seek “salvation” through weight loss.

Join Dr. Lelwica, a Harvard trained doctor of theology, and A Weigh Out’s Ellen Shuman for a discussion of women’s obsession with food and weight. Could we be using these obsessions to satisfy unmet spiritual needs? Learn how to experience profound spiritual growth and find more nourishing ways to feed your hungry heart and soul.
